When changing your name and gender with or without a change of address you’ll need to:

complete a D1 'application for a driving licence' available from the DVLA form ordering service or from any Post Office® branch
provide original identity documents confirming your new name
enclose your photocard driving licence and paper counterpart
enclose a passport style photograph

So no passport required
Have you got photo license?
Ooops! Copied wrong part.

It's all very clear, pinkcow - here http://www.direct.gov...tedLicence/DG_4022088

do it at the post office and you can just take your passport along for ID for the PO people to see.
I'd wait until both driving license and passport were up for renewal.

my passport still is still in maiden name because only renewed it last year! ive got my new car insurance in my new name so thought id be better changing driving license to avoid confusion! got paper and photo,i will nop in local po and sort there, thanks!
Good idea, pinkcow - when I married, I changed passport, d/licence, car insurance, medical records at GP. Didn't bother with anything else as I still use my previous name for work.
I'll remember that for the next time I change my gender.
