How can we improve our justice system in being fair to both parties, when it comes to financial obligations for child support? Im thinking if a parent is locked up for being behind on child support, how in the world are they expected to catch up?

It's about time the UK caught up with laws ot cover financial liability for the children of a broken relationship
You are surely not in the UK? Sadly, dead beat parents are not jailed for non payment. It took my case over 10 years to get to the court stage and even then, if it had gone that far (father paid in the end) all that would have happened is a CCJ and the baliffs going in.
For many years tax payers paid for my child until the Tax Credits system was introduced and I went back to work under it
We don't lock people up in the UK for non-payment of child support.
I do not know about making absent fathers / mothers pay.
I was happily married and only ever had my wife and 2 daughters. Sadly my wife has now passed away.
Suddenly money started getting taken from my salary for child sopport.
After complaining to my own company salary depart I was refered to the CSA.
To sort it out I had to take time off work and in the end I was standing out on nearly £3,500 as it took over 8 months to get it sorted.
It got to the stage where I was found not to be the father and I was then told by the CSA my money would be refunded when it was recovered from the woman which would probably be sometime never.
After a fuss I got my salary deductions refunded but I never managed to get the loss of interest on the money or compensation for the time I had to take off work.
Fortunately the woman who was making the claims was in Liverpool and my wife and myself lived south of London.
At the time this child was born I was only away from my wife for more than 3 hours at any point to go into London to work so she knew this could not be my child.
If I had been in a job which took me away from home it could have put a lot of pressure on the marriage.
