Assault in supermarket

My brother was accused of shoplifting in a well known supermarket on Friday evening. He was knocked to the ground by a male (quite heavy built) member of staff (not a security guard) and is now in severe pain with a twisted back, hip and knee. He is also very badly bruised all over his hip.
Does anyone know if he can take action against the supermarket in question.
They did call the police but my brother was let go without charge.

basicly im at court on the 15th ov novenber for a gbh with intent section 18

Do I need to pay back money for course?

Elvis, my point is that this is in 'Law' whether anyone thinks it is odd or bogus is irrelevant - don't comment if you cannot give constructive advice.

This all sounds very disturbing LD and you need to follow this up using some good advice given previously. Still within the store does not constitute an attempt at shoplifting at all.

Thanks to everyone who gave helpful answers...we will be contacting a solicitor in the morning......Nothing odd about it....None of my family have had any dealings with the poliec at all ...EVER...until this.

Nothing odd on my brothers part......Some people who have commented earlier seem to think Ive not been told the truth and that my bro has mental health problems.

This story simply does not ring true.
Why on earth would an ordinary employee act in that way?
