CRB CHECK

I am 22 years old and a law undergraduate student. I am active in my community volunteering in various organisations.However when i was 16 i was silly went out with friends and shoplifted, i got caught but was given a warning.I recently applied for my crb-enhanced check to my surprise 2004 it showed up as shoplifted and i received reprimand, is that detrimental to my career path and working in voluntary organisations? please help

Why were you surprised it showed up? It certainly won't enhance your career. Is this question for real?

No it's not detrimental to your career and you should still get the jobs you apply for, however you will have to do some good explaining and say that this was a one of stupid thing to do when I was immature and hope they believe you.

i also can't work out why you are surprised that if you had a reprimand for shoplifting, a reprimand for shoplifting showed up on a CRB check!

If you intend to go on to qualify as a solicitor you have to declare certain information relating to offences and from memory they do a check on you to make sure you are a fit and proper person to be admitted to the roll of solicitors.

It's dishonesty offences that they really don't like. They are more likely to take against offences involving violence than those which have an element of dishonesty such as fare dodging or theft. I believe the SRA then look into it and make a judgment call as to whether they will admit you.

I can't remember the exact information you had to disclose and they checks, only because I'm clear so didn't need to pay much attention.

I will see if I can find out some more information though.

Some firms will have application forms which often have questions relating to criminal history.

Legal jobs require a great deal of honesty and integrity so you may well encounter a problem if you hope to qualify.

I'm sort of in a similar situation, when i was 14/15 I got caught shoplifting but I have no idea what I was given from it, a warning, a caution or something else. I want to go to uni and become a paramedic, did you tell your uni that you were given a warning or did they not find out?
