i was convicted of a benefit fraud last september and was fined 400 pound, can i travel to malta?

just to clarify, living on benefits isn't easy but it isn't meant to be easy. if you'd had maintenance from your ex it would have been knocked off your benefit (unless it was too much, then your benefit would have been stopped) so you wouldn't have been any better off, financially.
if you can't manage on the same rate of benefit as everyone else in the same/similar situation then you should have looked for a full time job and stopped claiming benefits, which miraculously, you have now managed to do.
if you only worked 2 evenings, you must have done that for a mighty long time to find yourself in court. we don't prosecute people with small overpayments (it's an expensive procedure) so either you're not being honest about what you did (and you have a criminal record for a dishonesty offence/s, so who knows?) or you did it for a very long time. your reasons for working are no different from anyone else's, but not everyone fraudulently claims benefit to top up their wages. a �400 fine is hefty for a benefit fraud case. I gather from that that there is a large amount of money you have stolen from the tax-payer. as you know, you complete a "statement of means" form in court, so the magistrates/ judge considered your income before imposing such a fine.
just my opinion, but with a lot of fraud experience. I don't have any issues with whatever you do now, holidays, having a laugh and joke about it, but don't play that sympathy card or make excuses for what you did.
I do wish you all the best for the future. you're setting a good example for your kids, and you can put this all behind you.

You're right sara, living on benefits is not easy - been there, done it blah blah, but I could never afford to travel to Malta when in receipt of benefits!
The government (and me as a tax payer) have to be paying FAR too much now if tweedle-dum can afford to go to Malta , unless of course the bum of a father is actually paying for his off spring now??

pink kittens if u read properly i am currently working n not in receipts of benefits, n sara no living in receipt of benefit isnt supposed to be easy n am not looking for sympathy, i'm just explaining my situation n no it wasnt a great deal of money it was 1600 over four months n the reason i was prosecuted according to my lawyer was to be made an example of, wasnt the crime of the century, a think they r more needing to go after all these ppl who have lived together for years n claim as single they must b bigger fish than me, but as a said hey ho, a done the crime av paid the fine, am wrkn hard n want to go on holiday, and they all lived happily ever after xx

I think you should go to the press, its disgusting that you were even subjected to a court hearing considering that the other guy had defrauded �20k and yours was such a tiny amount. In fact, maybe they should set a precedent and allow anyone who fraudulently claims say less that �2k to keep it, no questions asked.
