Last week I visited an old pal not seen for about a year. On his wall there was a calendar with photos of very young girls with their genitals exposed and suggestive captions below.

Is it a criminal offence to possess such material or is it only if on a computer?

Yes, it's an offence.

I have known him on and off since 1954. New friends are hard to come by now that I'm 80 so there's need to hang onto old pals. But there are limits.

The photo showed very young children c. 5 years old. Very distressing.
Well that clinches it, you have no option but to report it.
Where in gods name did he get that calender from ?, or is it home made ?.

If it was a calendar showing under age girls, wouldn't he of had to put some effort into obtaining it? So surely he would know not to display it. However, as others have said, if you think it was, report it!
Phone the cops now, Segilla.
Your last reply wasn't there when I started typing, report it!
five? Yes, report it.

I know what you mean about old friends; but there are some friends you are better off without. He may not be an actual paedophile but that's probably a decision for someone else to make.

Five???

you didn't say anything to him?!!
Something isn't right here. As others have hinted, if you are correct about what you saw, not just what you think you saw, then your friend must surely know that its possession is a serious crime and would, in my estimation anyway, be utterly mad to have it on display.

Did he notice your noticing it? Did he make any comment about it?

And you refer to this person as 'an old pal', how could you not say something at the time and why have you left it this long to express our concerns?
Scrivens, you should also report it here so that Ed is aware of it.

Sher, I was thinking exactly the same thing! If I'd seen anything like this in anybody's possession, I'd have said or done something there and then.

can people stop kicking Segilla, please. He's clearly concerned but unsure of his legal grounds and has come on here to ask advice.
I wouldn't challenge a friend about something like that, I'd just go straight round to the police station and report it. Evidence can be got rid of quite quickly and I'd want the police to be able to find it.
