My son is buying and flat and has just put in an offer which has been accepted. He has received a letter from the estate agent with the name of his solicitor, the vendor's solicitor, etc. I know it takes a couple of months before they exchange and complete. He is getting all excited and wondering, for example, what is the first thing the solicitors do ? Is it a search? And what else do they do, in what order?

Chris

PS: If the solicitors really get there act together, there's no reason why it should take anything like two months for the process. When I sold my father's house everything was completed in under two weeks from the buyer first viewing the house.
