No pay for closure during the snow

My wife's nursery was closed for 3 days last week due to the snow. Even though she had the ability to get into work the Nursery called her and advised that the facility was closed.
Despite being paid for this last year, she has just been informed that this will not be the case this year after the event has happened.
To make matters worse, even though the nursery was closed, parents have been advised that they must pay for the children even though there was no attendance.

I'm thinking along the lines of customs and practice as they paid the previous year but would really appreciate some advice. My wife is a salaried member of staff with fixed hours.

I have a limited knowledge but I will try to help. I believe that as your wife is on contracted hours, then she is entitled to be paid for those days. I think it is worth getting further advice from someone specialised in employment law.
