This question will be difficult to answer, but I would appreciate some guidance if poss, please. We are celebrating a family milestone in a room in a local pub. There will be approx 18 adults (3 drivers). Probably only be there 3/4 hours in all. We want to put some cash behind the bar to cover most of the cost of the drinks. I haven't got a clue how much would be a reasonable amount. How much would ABers reckon? Many thanks.

3/4 hour then most people probably will have 2-3 drinks absolute maximum (most would only be 1-2)

approx 3.50 a drink (again max) so

I'd expect 150 to easily cover all if it and would hope to get some back.

100 would probably cover most of it

Difficult to say without knowing if "Auntie" will onkly have 1 sherry or "big unc" is a 12 pint a night man.
I would say maybe put a box with cash on the table and allow people to take as required, keeping an eye on it and topping up if needed.
Alternatively ask if the bar staff could keep an open tab and allow it to be settled at the end of the night - probably secured against a credit card same way as in restaurant chains.
Whichever, enjoy your do.

150.00 and to answer the header twice as long as it is from the middle to the end
I dont think thats anywhere near enough - particularly if there are only 3 drivers and 15 drinkers. My guess would be at least 250, if i was in your shoes thats how much i put behind there anyway.
I'd provide one drink per person and let anybody who wants another drink to buy their own. if not, you're going to have a party of drunken people just because the drinks are free, OR provide a few bottles of wine with the meal/buffet.
Just another suggestion..
I think Coccinelle's suggestion is the most sensible.
