The lease on my property expired in May 08 and just before this the company who owned the property went into liquidation and the bank reposessed, i have not paid rent since March and now the company who are in receivership are asking for the back rent. Should i pay this as i have been told that if the rent insn't taken in the month it is due i don't have to??? is this true? Also if i were not to pay and give a months notice would i not get the deposit?

Just because your landlord goes bust doesn't give you a right to avoid paying the rent. I'm afraid you owe it to whoever now owns the assets of the former business.
The advice given by Buildersmate is absolutely correct. Whatever you've been told previously about your not having to pay the rent is utterly wrong. Also, if you decide to give a month's notice to quit the property, you are nevertheless liable for rent up to and including the day on which the notice ends.
