My partner and I were married in Las Vegas but live in the UK. Are we supposed to register our marriage here in the UK? Will British law recognise our marriage as legal? Will it effect our assets if he dies? My partner is British and I am American. Cheers.

Yes it is legal - you should deposit your marriage certificate with the General Register Office in the UK.

My husband and I married in Orlando 9 years ago (we are both British) and have never registered our marrige here in the UK (didn't know we had to). We have had no trouble when having to produce our wedding certificate ie new passport for me, changing my name on our bank account etc.
Best wishes to you. We got married in Hawaii and were told that we need not register the marriage in the UK
