My Grandfather was born in 1920, there is no father listed on the birth certificate, his mother was not married (name listed on certificate is maiden name)
How could I go about finding who his father was, this all happened in Kent, UK

Thanks for your reply, this is my first time on this site. I know the address where my grandfather was born and I think it was a private house. I guess my next move is to go there and check out the property, see if it is a private house and maybe check locally if people know who owned it in 1920 and why my great-grandmother was there to give birth.

Hi
I have tried the google search. there was a poor house in the same road so there could be a link but I have a feeling in this case we are looking for a private home. The poor house does not have their records online yet or their postal address so I will have to look a little further.
The place we are interested in is the village of Eastry, I think a trip there and a walk around is the best option.
My Grandfather did stay with his mother, I met her as a young boy, she married several times but only after the birth of Grandad, at the time she was 19/20 years of age.
I have traced most of my family lines back to around 1800 but this one is a very frustrating gap

Yes thats the site I have looked at, I don't think she was there but it's the same street. Thanks for the link though
I was born in Folkestone so have a lot of links to Kent, actually going to a wedding in Hythe at the weekend, not travelling alone so can't really take a detour to Eastry, lol
