Rang the housing association help line which boasts about 24 hour service 7 day a week support, yes an engineer can call, 24 hour wait, I'm at work tomorrow, so I said it would have to be after 7pm, but they can't do that, as it is too restricted and so it has to be a 1-5 days call, so i said well it will have to be after 7pm as i am not off til saturday, so they said well it would be up to the engineer. I explained that if the engineer calls anytime before 7pm there will be noone in, the call centre operator said that they can't guarantee the engineer won;t call before 7pm or would call after 7pm. I said that's fine, as long as they call sometime this week after 7pm i will be in, i they call before 7pm i won't be and they will have to come back after 7pm.
Is it me?

I'll not be in I'm going out.
If you were paying for the engineer then I would agree they are being awkward, as it is a Housing Association engineer (free) then you have no say in the matter.
Question Author
the service is included in the rent though, nothing is free.
Can't you ask if the HA can give you his phone number, so you can find out when he might come, and get a couple of hours off work? That's what I'd have to do (in fact what I will have to do next Friday, when my boiler service is due).

I can't this week no, it's not a service I have no heating or hot water.
I'm lucky I guess, we rent privately and our landlord used to be a gas engineer. He is no longer allowed to do certain jobs (not certified any more) but he knows a lot of people still in the trade who owe him favours.
