Deryn, (my nephew on ex Hs side) has leukaemia. Some have asked for an update on his progress and so i thought (whilst I have 2 mins) i would let you know.

Deryn had a great few days before Christmas, he had a visit to an Apple store where he got to play with all the gadgets (out of hours) and had a great time. I still hasnt seen the hospice as weather and his poorly friend meant it was too difficult.

The 2 days before Christmas, he woke in agony and was blue lighted to the local hospital. The poor lad has ulcers in mouth and stomach and was in a lot of pain. He spent a day there (i think) and was then transfered to addenbrookes where he has been ever since.

Christmas day was spent knocked out on morphine, same with boxing day and yesterday was first day he could manage any fluids. His parents are hoping that he is home in next couple of days.

He missed Christmas and his little brother was so good about it, they spent the day at his bedside, no Christmas dinner, no playing with toys etc. I think they managed a bag of crisps and some squash whilst there.

And amongst all of this came some great news yesterday (albeit a bit late). The local hospital hadnt told them whel Deryn was in before and since hes been so so poorly, but he is still in remission and has been since october.
The poor little mite, but what great news about the remission!! The family and everyone must be so relieved to hear that and I hope they enjoy their 'late' christmas when he comes home! What does it matter if it wasn't on the day! They've already had the best xmas present I reckon with that news.
I wish them all the best! :o)
I am praying to whatever gods are there that his remission lasts for ever. I wish they could find a cure for this dreadful condition. Keep thinking positively red we are all trying to help you by our own positive thoughts,.
Good news red and remember to keep your fingers crossed. A very good friend of mine has a daughter with CF who was not expected to live into her teens, last year we celebrated her 30th birthday, so miracles do happen and lets hope theres one in store for this little chap
bless him, I hope he makes a good recovery and they have a late family Christmas very soon x
Poor little thing. It's hard to know what to say :-(
It certainly throws the trivialities most of us become over-bothered about into sharp relief.....

I extend my very best wishes to Deryn and his family and hope for a calmer and more peaceful New Year for them all.

xx

thanks all. Looks like Christmas will come in the next couple of days now.
Hes a very strong and brave lad, but i also think that his younger brother is so good to accept all this without a moan. Trips to hospitals, delayed Christmas, Mum and dad rushing about all the time to and from the hospitals (one 20 miles away, one 60 miles away) and all the upheavel that comes with it.
