how long does it train to become a hairdresser? thinking of taking up a new career so ive always got a skill to hand. can you do a short course if thats possible?

It's been a while since I did my training so can't remember exactly but for me it was a 2 year college based NVQ with a 3rd year optional. The college had it's own salon and you would go to a salon once a week for a placement. I know there are some in-salon courses but I don't know how long these take. See if there is a college near you that does the course and they will be able to give you all the information you need on the different courses.
