I think Rottingdean fails the "not too expensive" test !
Joggerjayne, hove is more safer, less crime and no drug and anti social problems like brighton has especially at the weekends.
There's no Berlin Wall between Brighton and Hove.

I don't think there's less crime in Hove.

looking to buy, preferably a house with min 3 beds.would like to be able to enjoy restaurants, pubs, bars, nightlife of brighton within walking or taxi distance. like the idea of walks by the sea too. as parking is horrendous in brighton and we like to share a bottle of wine or too on a sunday dont want to drive. hubby may be getting a job nr shoreham.

I live in Lewes...about 10 miles from Btn town centre, very twee and historic and has incredible bonfire night celebrations. google it.
Lewes would get my vote, and it has one of the best pubs in the history of the world ever...The Snowdrop :-)
oh yes, in Lewes you can burn Catholics and gypsies and so on on November 5; should suit ABers down to the ground.
