my mate recently started a new job and is given different hours each week(amounting to 20 as the contract states)on saturday she is supposed to do 8-12 but now the 12 has been tippexed off and has f instead, meaning until finish, can they do that without asking? a lot of workers are starting at 8 in the mornings and having to stay til late, some as late as 6.45, surely this isnt right, all contracts are for 20 hours

Is the contact set up so the hours can be whatever the company specifies as long as it's within 20 hours?
I would also ask how long in advance the changes were made? and if she is supposed to check each shift if any changes have been made etc.

I would also say if the times have been changed then she should check with her line manager anyway... What if someone had just messed about with it? or changed it so that they could go home early and didn't have the authority to change it?
