i am desperately trying to find my father, but to no avail. i have tried all the obvious avenues, but have drawn a blank. my main problem is lack of vital information, which is making it all the more harder. all i have is a name, and that he was a sloldier in 1963, based in maidstone. i have no place or date of birth. any ideas anyone?

You could try 192.com, you dont have to, but if you pay a small fee, you have access to more info, I would look up the name and ring every possible number I could get my hands on...have you tried friends reunited?

i know he was based in maidstone, as that is where he met my mother at the time. as for 192.com, due to the circumstances of this relationship, i feel it would be too delicate and insensitive to ring him?

Organisation which can help re-establish contact with friends and family, by informing the person being sought that a letter is being held for them at the Traceline office. If the person has died they will advise how to obtain a copy of the death certificate. Will also help companies trace customers or former employees e.g to make payment on assurance policies or pensions, and to find will beneficiaries. Will not act in cases involving adoption, or where contact may be disruptive. Search fee for priority service is �40 (only available with the date of birth), standard service �30 and �25 for letter forwarding. Ring for further details.
