my husband was out this am with my son and he was blocked by 3 unmarked cars and 4 plain clothed pc's they removed the keys from the car and dragged my son out of the car and searched him then went to do the same with my husband - he is disabled so they stopped and let him get out by himself. they searched the car for drugs they said it due to information received they also suspected the car was stolen every thing was clear - no drugs and the car was registered as ours obviously this was really distressing for my son and husband are the police allowed to do this

Unfortunately if they have 'good' reason to suspect them then yes they are, but i would definatley follow it up with the police, you may need to be quite demanding but i would persist till you get some answers, can i ask how old your son is
Question Author
he is 22 he was also handcuffed it was to him they said the car was suspectedly stolen - not my husband the driver they searched my son but not my husband - thye are still in shock and neither of them are known to the police with previous convictions
Question Author
they have also bruised and hurt my sons wrists with the handcuffs and threatened him with if he didn't behave they would hurt him - all for nothing
I don't know the law on this, but it seems very odd. Have you recently acquired the car? Has someone been spreading malicious gossip about you? Didn't the police explain their actions?
i would definatley get onto the police about this and maybe even seek legal advice if they've caused injury to your son, but i'd only go down this route if seeking explanation from the police fails, i'd be angered if it was my child and would definatley persist till i got some answers!

they had only popped out to the shops and were taken by complete surprise they did the car check after they had searched the car and when it came back as our car they let them on their way without so much as an apology
I find it hard to believe they "dragged" your son out of the car and searched him but let your husband get out and not search him, why?

Report it and ask for an explanation
Question Author
it was very very strange they had only been out for 10mins before this happened we have had the car for 21/2 years i am just as upset as they are and i wasn't there thankfully i am awaiting a phone call from the inspector to explain things i just wondered what my sons and husbands rights were thank you
I had seven armed police pointing automatic weapons in my face along with some young lads coz one of them had had a broken plastic toy gun in his hand outside his house for two minutes. Believe me you have to wait till they have done it to find out whether they should have, so it is all academic really. One of those guns could have blown my head off, not much point debating whys and wherefors after that.
Question Author
i'm sorry elvis my husband is disabled and unable to walk with out crutches they went to drag him but they stopped when my husband told them his circumstances
Question Author
exactly it's very scary we just want to know why or how?? without evidence my son doesn't even smoke a cigarette
The police do have the power to stop and search any vehicle and any person if they have reasonable grounds to suspect certain activities, which include drugs. They could have been acting on information given or your son could fit the profile of a known criminal, as examples.

It does seem heavy handed to drag your son out of the car- did he refuse to co-operate with the police in any way?

This is where complaints should be made:

Just a suggestion, but perhaps your car number plate could have been cloned, and the cloned plate is involved in something dodgy, but obviously when the police looked up the plate number with the DVLA, it's registered at your address.

It's unusual that the police would make such a big mistake of mistaken identity on someone with a squeeky clean sheet, so there may be an alternative explanation.

Is someone trying to set them up?
request the details of the informant ,and have them charged with atempting to pervert the cousre of justice
"...request deatils of informant" - have you heard of Data Protection??? The police will not disclose this info to you.
