If you just started a job, is it right for the employer to not pay you for the first week, but will the wage be carried onto the following weeking?

Its called 'working a week in hand'. You WILL get paid for the first week. What happens is that week one, you work but get no pay, week two you get the wages from week one, week three you get the wages from week two, week four you get your wages for week three.....and so on.
... and it's perfectly legal! That's how I'm paid, and always have been.
The old days when you got your pay packet every Friday night have gone. Most people work the new system where you get paid a week later. In fact most get paid a month later, if they get paid monthly.
