An abstemious regime of no drink, no smoking, and no red meat, has helped reduce my BP to 110-60. And some medication must have played a part, too. Are they good figures for a chap of advanced years?

I really want to be advised that an occasional blood-red steak washed down with a bottle of red wine would do me no harm.
That is excellent blood pressure. Better than mine, i suspect. Enjoy your steak :-)

Yes the mention of vino was a joke.
I see I once had a reading of 158-96 so it's well down. If there is a secret it's a combination of weight loss, medication, and neither drinking or smoking.

You are perfectly correct; The combination of loss of weight, smoking cessation and a reduction in alcohol consumption, as well as a reduction of salt in your diet is a great way to bring down the blood pressure.

I think you can probably afford to have the occasional steak and glass of wine now! ;)

well done, sandy - that's good. Mine's usually about 120/60, which surprises me as I don't do anything to keep it there. Do you test it yourself, or get it read at the doctors?

The nurse at my doctors took it today. The lower figure is close to the 'low' in Mazie's chart.

I remember once I was in an off-licence and there was an older lady in front of me getting served. She told the man behind the counter that she'd never had a drink in her life but the doctor had recommended she drink a bottle of Guinness every day for the iron content.
When she'd left I asked for 6 tins of Guinness and he asked: 'Is this for the iron?'
