Am currently a reporter on a regional daily newspaper.

Would love to get into TV news, and would happily start at the bottom as a researcher etc to get my foot in the door ( am currently a qualified senior reporter), but the only mental block I have is the probable salary cut I will take to get started. Have thought about going into PR, but doesn't have the same appeal as TV news. Do I take the salary cut to do something I would love, or should I think about the better money in PR, although I wouldn't enjoy the work as much? Has anyone been in the same boat, or has any suggestions? My local commercial TV station has vacancies for researchers....

Follow your heart when it comes to a job! Enjoying it is half the battle! I took a pay cut of 20k to go into tv and I never regretted it. Give it a go and see what happens - you may love it and yet again you may hate it! Good luck whatever you choose.
A foot in the door is a foot in the door - get in and show them what you can do, and if they like you and think you can do it they'll give you the job you want. But be prepared to do the work that goes with being a researcher as they'll see through any application for that job that is blatantly just a way in for you. Good luck!
