An dear old lady I know who is in receipt of her state pension and pension credit to top it up she has no savings and her cooker has just stopped working would she be able to get any help toward a new one or even a secondhand one?

She could apply for an emergency loan. They take it back at an affordable amount per week.
Age UK have a handyperson service which i believe is free? you could try them and see if it can be fixed
Does your local council have a recycling policy ?
There may be a depot where she can get a reconditioned cooker at a very reasonable cost. Our city council accepts donated goods of all kinds, restores or reconditions them then resells at very low prices to those in need.
Worth phoning the local social services care of the elderly team too to find out what might be available.

There is a Social Fund, which can be applied for and it doesn't have to be paid back.
