Halifax son brought home his Year 10 report today - his For Funks Sake (Government) predicted GCSE grades gave him As, Bs and Cs (due to, according to him, the fact that I'm a single mum on minimum wage, living in a not-great neighbourhood)

His school's teacher-predicted grades are 11 A and A*s at GCSE. He has already achieved a B in Maths and an A in Science.

All this and he has had 6 weeks off this term with glandular fever. He is the shining light in my life. I really don't want to show off, but I'm so proud of him, he's not had it easy, he really is a star! Aren't kids just brilliant!

it's not for fooks sake! it's the government's way to assess a student's likely achievement at GCSE!

thank you daisy and all - i find so much comfort in the replies i get on here - i don't have any family but your comments really do touch me :)
(Ps - as far as I aware (ex teacher) the predicted Government grades are based on CAT tests, meaning that all students who achieve a certain mark on the CAT tests are likely to achieve a certain grade at GCSE for each different subject. I am not aware of any tests that factor in personal factors. If the school are indicating this I would be a bit concerned. But it still doesn't distract from his fabulous predicted grades.

sherrard - yes, i'm not sure what the F.F.S. is, but Halifax son and his best mate Rory assure me that they factor in home-life conditions - Rory has 2 well-paid parents with good jobs, own homes and high incomes - he has been predicted all As (and they are both at similar academic levels)

Anyway, thank you to all my lovely AB friends for your supportive comments :) x
this thread has a real warm feeling to it
a lovely one, halifaxmum

thank you islas mum x

daisy - lol, halifax daughter is proving that siblings can be different! or is that just girls?!!
My girl comes across as a complete air head but is secretly quite clever - think they hide it better. Have no idea about thing 1 and thing 2 - thing 1 is a complete head case and thing 2 doesn't talk.
Question Author
lol sherrard - how old are yours?

halifax son is quiet and sensitive, whereas halifax daughter is loud, brash but emotional! or is that just men and women?!

Bobbi - xoxox
Girls are always a mystery. So many physical and mental changes when growing up. The realisation that one day pregnancy and motherhood may occur.
