I'm 19 weeks pregnant & would like to tell my boss next week after my 20 week scan about the baby, I'm not sure how to go about it at all! I've been with the company, since April, & recently changed roles, and as a result I'm on a 3 month probation period (standard process) which ends the end of Nov, I need to legally tell them by the 3rd Dec; however I would like to tell them next week, but feel nervous!
I'm confident that I'll pass my probation period as I'm on target with my work, & I'd like to think my pregnancy wouldn't be held against me.

There really is only one way to tell him....and that's telling him you're pregnant. He might not be happy but there's nothing you can do about that. Did you know you were pregnant when you took on the new role?
Well they won't sack you, if that's what you're thinking. They can't.
I think you're right in telling them sooner rather than later because, if you waited until after your probation ended, they'll think you've been a bit sly.
Just be positive, and tell them your fantastic news!
Probably a good idea to have some some of plan in place, which you could maybe mention. By that, I mean do you intend to return to work after the baby is born. I know it's early days, but I think this would probably be a good idea.

Good luck... and congrats! x
She's been with the company since April Flip....
Ah, sorry. I missed that bit.

Oh.

As Ummmm says then, did you know you were expecting?
I agree with Ummmm. they may not be best pleased... but what can you do.. you cant hide it.. they have to be told sooner rather than later...
Good luck....
Congrats on the baby.I wouldn't be nervous any decent boss will be pleased for you and if they don't let you pass your probation period then you can accuse them of discrimination. The best thing to do is just tell him/her face to face and then ask if you need to put it in writing do the company have standard forms..mine does and its just a case of filling in the relevant details and signing it you'll also need a copy of you MAT B1 form that your midwife will give you soon. Good luck with everything
You get your MatB1 form form your midwife that you must give to your employer

You dont have to tell him until week 25 of your pregnancy - unless he's blind he may notice though lol
When you tell him you must also tell him you intend to go on maternity leave, that you want to receive statutory maternity pay (if entitled) and the planned date that you will be starting your maternity leave (which cannot be earlier than 11 weeks before your baby is due). This should be by letter. Your employer must reply to this within 28 days and include the date he expects you to return to work
It matters not that Graffiaster knew she was pregnant when she changed roles, it had nothing to do with her employer at that stage and she had no legal obligation to mention it

Thanks for the quick replies! Yes I did know when
I changed roles, however I have had a miscarriage in the past and was worried it would happen again, so waited till my 12 week scan before telling anyone. My midwife advised me to wait until my 20 week scan before telling them which is what I'm doing. As I'm a larger lady (who's lost sone weight but still wears bigger clothes,) it's easier for me to conceal my bump.
Thank you also for the congratulations messages, I'm really happy, nervous & excited!!
"Well they won't sack you, if that's what you're thinking"

That is not strictly true'
That was my point oj....they don't need a reason in the first 12 months.

Is that still the case?
Yes, as I said oj, I missed the bit about her being there only for six months.
Yes, umm it is but they'd need a damned good reason
OP can't be sacked for being pregnant but can be sacked because after her probationary period she may not be up to scratch
In theory the probationary period is irrelevant since a company can dismiss you for almost any reason in the first 12 months. However, as others have also said, they cannot use pregnancy as grounds for dismissal in the first 12 months (or indeed at any time). But they can use other reasons such as work performance.
If you work for a major employer I think it's better to tell them about your pregnancy as in my experience employers are less likely to find a reason to dismiss you in such circumstances because they are worried they could be seen to be discriminating.
