Hi possibly the wrong place but here go's:

I have a grandson hes 4 months now and teething so off we go to Boots to get something to rub on the little man's gums.

So we are looking and I notice that two of these teething powders are homeopathic now I don't mind if an adult wants to waste their money and pretend they are getting better but a baby can't complain and has no idea of the placebo effect.

Why is this quackery allowed.

I think some homoeopathic remedies are believed to work.

With respect have you ever read or seen anything to back that up? I was talking to a woman in another chemist that sold them and was told he collegue swears by them. Everything about homeopathy is anecdotal.

No scientific test has ever endorsed homeopathy. As I said adults can do what they want.
the ashtons powders really do work! try them before complaining about placebos
oh and before you ask if i have anything to back that up, i have 2 children who have teethed and also have been on the ivillage boards for 7 years now on many boards with hundreds of other parents who more often than not would use the powders and recommend them.
I would assume that parents who believe in it would want to purchase it for their child, the same as other choices parents make and inflict on their children, religion, diet etc., and that is their right whether we agree or not.
we used ashtons powders, but I did not realise that they were homeopathic.
they worked for us, but had I known they were homeopathic I probably would not have bought them.

Redcrx - If your talking about Ashton & Parsons - They are herbal not homeopathic. They are not the same thing.

Chelle it is scientificaly proven that homeopathy has no active ingredient - James Randi, despite dire warnings from homeopathists, took an entire bottle of 60 homepathic sleeping tablets - never missed a beat and is still, very much, alive.
I'm not defending homœopathy but there is an Association of Homœopathic Vets in this country and I doubt the animals know about a placebo effect. If the wee one doesn't improve another product can be used, if it NEVER worked, it wouldn't be selt in Boots would it?
''Makes my blood boil''

Probably a homeopathic remedy for that ;-p
dave i didn't disagree with you, there's no proof about homeopathy and there's no proof there is a god either but it doesn't stop people believing it.
I just said people have a right to choose, if you don't agree with it don't buy it.
which brands are homeopathic that you are talking about here?
Question Author

LOL at snags
Maybe "this quackery is allowed" because it works !! Anyway if it didn't work your grandson would let you know I am sure.
