perhaps this is the wrong topic to post in but not sure where else it might fit.

In medical research what is the difference between a sposnor vs a funder.

I think I sponsor has more responsibilities for the overall governance and compliance of a research trial whils the funder is purely the financial backing?

Am I right?

Not necessarily. A sponsor tends to have some interest in the outcome of the research - so company X sponsors research into a group of drugs perhaps - funding could be anyone.
