If you are claiming JSA (on the dole) and go on holiday for one week, will the benefit agency still let you claim jsa for that particular week.

Unless you don't turn up to sign on how will they know?
according to this, you can http://uk.answers.yah...20100614090457AALknrL but you need to check it out for yourself.
The rule is that you have to be actively seeking work, and immediately available for it.

In practice, if you take a week's holiday on a 'non-signing' week (and 'forget' to mention it) you'll still get your JSA. (But it's still benefit fraud).

You're allowed to travel within the UK in order to seek work but, if you were due to sign during that period, you have to make special arrangements to sign locally where you're seeking work.

There are very limited circumstances where you can still (legally) claim JSA while seeking work within the EU but they involve complex arrangements for reporting to the equivalent of Jobcentre Plus while abroad.

That's what I thought Chris, you have to be available for work - but answers elsewhere on the internet suggest you can take holiday....?
My sister not only missed that week but had her whole claim cancelled when she went abroad... for my wedding. How bad did I feel?!

Lucky you going on holiday...I work full time and can't afford to go away...perhaps I should pack in work and then I'd be able to claim jsa and have a hol...sorted.
Maybe the question-poster is going to see relatives/friends? He/she is not necessarily living the high life.
or maybe they booked and paid for their holiday whilst still working?
Good point Boo.
True...but as the title of the question states 'going on holiday' I think I've got a valid point
I was made redundant and claimed JSA for 4 months last year

Went for a weeks break in Lake District, had to fill in forms to make a separate claim for that week declaring where I was going, contact phone number, saying I would still actively be seeking work (checking websites etc)
I think bitching at the poster makes no valid point
Agree with cazzz, unless you know the OP's financial situation then criticism is pointless
Some people cant help it cazzz. Madonna have a good time.
That is what my daughter did B00, she had alread arranged her weeks holiday in Portugal with friends and almost paid for the holiday, and then lost her job, I'm helping her out to pay the last instalment for her holiday and with her holiday spending money. I too was worried about how she would go about signing on for JSA.for that week. She had already paid too much money for her holiday to lose it and she really needs.a holiday atm.
