work contract - casual work

I don't supose you should still have a contract for casual work do you? It'll all be at the same place but only covering for illness/holiday/uni trips etc . . . but it'll probably work out on average, 1/2 to 1 day a week . . .

But what exactly wou;d it include? The kind of work I will be doing and the possible hours?
it should had a job description, rate of pay, when you are expected to start, days and hours to cover, notice period

Yes it should be before you start, training should be part of any probation period included in it.

Do you normally get paid for training? I think most of it consists of shadowing another waitress as they work for your first day. And they show you how to make the various drinks up and i think i'll have to learn about the gazillion types of tea they have.
I'm not sure about getting paid, it depends what you agree with them. You'de get paid where I work as the training would be during a work shift so I'd think it would be the same with you. I take it's a cafe? Sounds like you're looking forward to it.
My OH has been working for the same company for 15 years without a contract.

Yeah it's quite a respectable cafe but i've been going there for years with my mum and dad, and at least I've got my foot in the door now and i'll have some experience. After my exams i'll try and egt some work on tuesday and friday evenings somewhere else perhaps . . .
Yes ummmm I know it still happens even though it shouldn't. A lot of my friends are in the building trade and they'd fall about laughing if you asked if they had a contract.

we'd pay you for training as your emplyment would start from day one and the training owuld be part of that but we're not a cafe. the pubs etc i've worked in the past - no contract and you get paid for the hours you worked training included
You ought to have something which says your hours of work (or that you are casual, no fixed hours), and how much you are paid.
