Did they have a closing date for the job, if so they won't make any decisions till they have all the CV's in and if they have had a lot of ~CV's it may take them a while to review them so I would wait a while longer

nope no closing date, it was posted on gumtree of all places

thanks
Many jobs get so many responses that they don't acknowledge at all. At our place, the adverts say something like "if you haven't heard in three weeks that you've got an interview, then assume you haven't" - there are too many applications for every one to be acknowledged.
From my own experience of replying to job advertisements, you might be being rather optimistic in expecting to hear anything at all. At one stage in my life I applied , over a two year period, for well over 1000 jobs. Only about 30 employers (i.e. around 3%) ever bothered to reply at all. Even after I spent a full day (12 hours 50 minutes, starting at 5am, with no breaks) on an unpaid work trial, the employer still didn't have the courtesy to write (or phone) to tell me that I hadn't got the job.

Since January I have applied for about 30 jobs and have only received 2 'sorry to inform you ' replies. Its bloody annoying but I dont worry about it anymore. I have to agree with boxtops, there are so many people appling for so few jobs. Some companies are reporting over 200 applications per vacancy so it would cost them a fortune to reply to every one.
Just like you Samuelcat, i have been applying for jobs every day since November 2009. So far I have had 3 replies telling me I have not been selected for interview. One of them came today for a job that I applied for in February!

EDDIE - you may want to check your own standard of spelling and grammAr before you start sniping at others...

reread your last line...
yes eddie you should redo that as I CANNOT read it. lol. Come on lay off the poster I'm sure they know send is not spelt ssend and response is not spelt reposnse, It's obvious they were in a rush and wern't expecting to be stung by the spelling bee.

eddie i re read any cv i send, yes i admit i dont spell check my posts because i type them fast and i click submit answer before i get a chance to read what i posted, i do understand about grammer.

Reason why i posted the initial answer was because i thought i had what they were looking for which was a qualification plus i had experience of working in the area of business they are in

thanks 4getmenot and joko,

would it be ok to send a polite email just asking if theres any news, its been over a week now,

thanks
if its passed the closing date (if they stated one) then it wouldnt do any harm x have you joined any recruitment agencies? they help alot
Question Author
There was no actual closing date in the ad,
Question Author
I found agencies to be a bit crap, i am currently working so agencies are a bit pointless really
then I would just send them a polite email
Emails can be missed or the recipient might be on holiday and have so many waiting in their inbox, it will be passed by Telephone them instead.

Question Author
