We work a 9am to 5pm day with half hour lunch break. I have been told by a few people that we should be getting a one hour lunch break as 30 mins is not enough for the hours we work. Can anyone confirm?
thanks

what are your hours per week? I work 37.5 hours a week and have 30 mins lunch. If you work the same hours as me then the only way you would get an hour lunch break is to work from 08:30 till 5 rather than from 9.

Sorry I should have added, I work Monday to Friday 9 to 5 so after deductibg half hour lunch this is then 37.5 hour week.
If you work for 6 hours or more, you are entitled to a break of 20 mins, so you are getting more than the minimum already.

See HERE and scroll about half way down.
i work the same and get the same 30 mins - its normal pracice to fit in the 37.5 hours week
Im the same but we all sit around a table and still have to answer the phone, see to clients etc, its NOT a proper break and theres not a lot you can do in half hour to escape
My working week used to be 35hrs, this is the first time ive had a long week, and an earlier start, not ideal as you get older lol
Do you have a contract? If not, it's your employers prerogative to give you a break when its suitable at any time of the working day.

What if you work more than 37.5hrs p/w? I work Mon-Fri 9am-5pm (40 hrs contracted work).

Nobody in our office takes any kind of lunch "break", we have to eat our lunch whilst continuing with our work. Surely there has to be some kind of governing role which states how much break time is allowed by law?
