Is it the way they speak?

There seems to be an increase in the using of the word "of" in some written sentences why people clearly means "have". This is so annoying to read. Is anyone able to shed light as to why this is?

I do notice this myself but it doesn't bother me.We are not sitting exams we are just chatting and asking questions, and like craft says some people type the way they speak.

Of instead of Have annoys the crap out of me.

As does the use of 'you're/your' instead of 'you'll', such as 'you're be fine'. I know I should let it go over my head but it drives me bonkers.

I had to retake English as a requirement of getting into college, I failed it again! but I'm pretty sure I'm not thick.

I remember putting my hand up at school and asking "Can I go to the toilet please". The teacher replied, " I don't know, can you". Seeing my perplexed look the teacher said, you mean may I go to the toilet. Can I means am I able. That man taught me a lot.

lol cazzz I find myself googling words to make sure I'm spelling them correctly.
I actually had a heated debate with my daughter's English teacher, as the daughter used to get really good marks for what I considered rubbish.
I was told that rather than concentrate on spelling, grammar, and punctuation, the main concern was 'freedom of expression.'

Just thinking about what Kathyan said about teachers marking spelling and grammar. Last year at college while doing the graded unit, we were told that we would be marked down for exactly that. That was until one girl complained because she suffers from dyslexia. She had this note added to her marking guidelines, something I find unfair. Everyone had the use of Word to type up the work and therefore the use of the spellchecker. Our work was also proof read before being sent away.

My mum said that when she was at school she was taught that "got", "get" and "getting" were bad grammar. Her English teacher said that there were always other words for those.

My sister got a letter home from her sons English teacher about the standard of his work. So she sent the letter back with the spelling and grammar corrected :-)

no different really to the disappearance of the verb "to say", now replaced by the compound verb "to be like".

I will say I do think teaching standards are quite poor, my daughters teachers have spoke about their relationships as if the children are agony aunts and one of her teachers spent the lesson googling venues for her wedding. even though I went to a fairly average school it was work work work, we knew nothing about our teachers private lives and the teachers never sat around reading books whilst we essentially were given "busy work"
