My partner is probably going to join the marines soon and (when he can) have me down to live on base with him and was just wondering if anyone online here knows anything about this kind of lifestyle and could shed any kind of light on how life is when you are involved with the marines???? :)

I married a serving RAF engineer and went to live in a married quarter on the airbase. I moved 250 miles away from my family and I had never lived away from them before. I worked for a large department store 16 miles away in cardiff city. I made new friends very quickly, though not with anyone living near us on the base, at work, I had an amazing time working in the city and enjoyed the night life there. The base I found very restricting and the other wives of the airmen all seemed to have children and stop at home with no interests outside of their tiny world. It's like everything else in life, it's what you make it. I did not get involved with the social life on the base for about 6 months and then discovered the local pub and the RAF club on the camp and began to really enjoy the night life there. It was like having a huge party every weekend. I was always anti-authority and got in trouble a few times for being on the base when I shouldn;t have been, often still in my party gear from the night before. Just treat it as a great experience you have yet to have.

Thanks for the info... yeah i think we'd have fun and iv got no problem moving and making friends... how do you cope with the whole... they might get killed issue?! lol
living within a garrison is no different from say village life. There is rank to abide by, like class in civvy. They have own mess (social clubs) where wives & families arrange activities etc.

Death is in every walk of life, mercifully or sadly - live for each day and look forward to sharing your life with your love.
