some1 hit my car on 7th october and they tried to get £450 extra as my car was modified and they had it down as standard. they listened to tapes and heard me say it was modified but they failed to note it down. so i got lower premiums. then my added driver, being under 25 couldnt drive the car no longer even though she'd driven it for 11 months. now its sorted and i can continue the claim made almost 4 months ago, new hurdle , they wont insure courtesy car as my policy with them as expired but was active at time of claim.
they told me i need to insure it with my new company as i refuse to give them any more business.
CAN THEY DO THIS OR ARE THEY TRYING IT ON.
I WENT TO CHIEF EXEC TO SORT MY MOD COMPLAINT OUT...

Translation.
I had a bump in my car in October and claimed on the insurance.
The insurance company said they wanted an extra £450 on my premium as the car was modified, even though I told them it was modified at the time I took out the insurance, but they failed to act on the information and I had a cheaper premium. The company has heard me say that it was modified on the tape.
The named driver is under 25 and was insured to drive a standard car, but the company refuses to insure her to drive the modified car.
Those problems are now sorted and I am with a different insurance company.
I am still driving a courtesy car but the original insurance company refuse to insure it as I no longer have any insurance with them, even though I was insured with them at the time of the claim.
They tell me I should insure the car with the new company.
Can they do this?
I had to go to the Chief Executive of the original insurance company to sort out the problems I had in respect of the modifications.
a courtesy car is usually provided by a hire company or the company repairing your car so insurance would be included. I could never see a time when you would be expected to have a courtesy car on your own insurance, it is too much of a risk for the owner!

they messed my policy up at there end and tried to make me pay the extra premiums. now i can go ahead with the claim, the garage i use offer courtesy cars but dont insure them, due to my policy expiring they say they can't insure it, but need to pay to insure it myself, are they justified in saying they wont insure it due to my policy being expired. I are phoning the chief executive up again today to confirm this or to see if they are trying something else on with me.
Last year I had my car bumped and was given a courtesy car. For the duration of the hire the courtesy car was on MY insurance. So if your policy with Direct Line has expired you will have to put the courtesy car on your new insurance.

Totally standard practice for a courtesy car to be on your own insurance - that's how it works if you are claiming for damage to your own car on your own policy. The insurance is temporarily transferred to/duplicated on the courtesy car. If that's expired, then new insurance is needed.
Did you not check your policy documents when they came through?
