can someone answer me this question? my girlfriend recently decided to take out her own insurance as she was under her mother's for 3 years. during that time the car was maliciously damaged and a claim put through. does she tell the company that she has had a previous claim even though the insurance was never in her name-she was only a named driver on the policy. one insurance company has already told me that because it was her mother's policy is doesn't count as a previous claim against her, then they asked her to send them details of the claim. so i don't know, can someone clear this up thanks in advance

Be up front If she lies/ gets caught, it may happen that she needs to make a claim, in due course. If found out, the insurers will be able to resist the claim, and not pay out.

she has no intention to lie but what i want to know is, if you are a named driver on someone else's policy and the car gets vandalised, does it affect your premium when you go to get your own insurance?
All insurance companies have their own criteria, so there is no definitive answer! However, if your girlfriend was the driver in charge (or the last driver) before the car was vandalised, then the claim will have been registered with her as the driver. If she wasn't the last driver, then she can truthfully answer 'no' to the previous claims question.
Some companies would disregard it anyway, and others may view it as a (slightly) increased risk.
