We have had Sky for years now and have never really managed to video anything off it. Does anyone know why my video does not video?? How should it be connected??

Are you setting the channel to record as AV or EXT, turning the sky box on and leaving it on the channel you are recording?

Depends how the devices are connected.

One scart lead should go from the Sky box to the Video.

Another scart lead should go from the Video to the TV.

So the Sky signal is going THROUGH the video box to get to the TV.

The two scart sockets on the back of the video will be marked AV1 and AV2 (or EXT1 and EXT2) or something like that.

Now to record Sky you need to set the video "channel" to AV1 or AV2 (or EXT1 or EXT2). Your documentation will tell you how to do this.

That way the video recorder will record whatever is coming in via the Scart lead connected to AV1 or AV2.

One extra thing.

Have to agree with loosehead, get a Sky+ box and you will never need a video again.

It records programs to a computer hard disk built into the Sky+ box.

Recording is a simple process of pressing the R button on the remote control.

The Sky+ box knows when the programs starts and stops and records it accordingly.

If the time of the program changes the Sky+ box will know that and record at the proper time.

You can set "series link" where it records every episode of the series (Dr Who for example) without you having to remember to set it.

You can also record one channel while watching another.

Watching a program is easy (no need to hunt for videos) and you can pause, wind back, skip forward (to miss adverts) and so on.

You don't need a sky box to do that. My Philips hard drive recorder works in exactly the same way, with the bonus of also burning to removable dvd disk if I want to save it for prosperity or watch a recording elsewhere.

Thankyou, all the answers are really helpful. It is annoying that you have to watch the programme you are recording.

How much is the Sky + package if it's not rude to ask.

I think a Sky+ box is �99 but if you have the "full Sky package" (all channels) you pay nothing extra each month.

When they fit a Sky+ box they have to change one of the components on the Sky dish, and run an extra cable from the dish to your Sky+ box.

So 2 cables go to your Sky+ box, allowing you to record 2 channels at once, or record one while watchin another.
