i passed my driving test on monday just gone and i arranged my insurance to become valid on thurs, 19th. i put the insurance through under my dads name with me as a named driver due to it being nearly half the price of what it would be for me to insure the car. as it was my dads name he would be making the initial payment and finalize the purchase, this was done whilst i was at work on the 18th. i was excited to take m car out for a drive when i finnished at 12:30am now the 19th, so i got a lift home and picked up my car, after a drive with some friends we pulled up at a layby near an airport, after about 10min a police car came. i had all details checked, but my insurance wasnt on their record so i was given a producer. i then later re-checked my insurance policy and it is not due to start till the 20th, tomorrow. this obviously came as a shock as i was misinformed of the start date a genuine misunderstanding. i would never intentianaly drive without insurance, i'm worried about how the police will handle this as i am fully aware its 6 points. any coments would be extremely helpful.

BUT the fact is you DID intentionally drive without insurance. It is Your responsibility to confirm your details before you drive. This site seems to be full of young tearaways howling because they have been caught out. And they are always the ones who have been trying to get round the law by having the insurance in someones elses name.
Sorry to say, I expect you will get at leat 6 points and you deserve it.
It may well be that the insurance was due to start at Mid-night on the 19th, but this is no excuse.
Strict liability offence - you will receive a no insurance conviction, unless you can get confirmation from your insurers that the mistake is their and that they were providing Road Traffic Act liabilities from 19th.

Does you Dad have his own car?

cheers v2-shneider that is reasuring on my ho/rt1it says check not record, does this mean the civilian will just basically check the details and tick a box, leaving me to hope they don't notice the discrepency concerning the date?

The bad news that if you are proven guilty, not only is it points on your licence but you go back to provisional licence status. theory test, hazard perception test, driving test all over again+ a considerable rise in your insurance premium.
