If I close a bank account, what happens if someone tries to cash a cheque written on that account - will the bank then charge me a bounced cheque fee?

Thanks

They will return it to the payee with the answer 'Account Closed'.  If it was covered by a cheque guarantee card (which it shouldn't be, the Bank should have made you hand this over before closing the account) then they will probably try and recover he funds from you.  I doubt they would try and charge a fee for unpaid cheques as there is no account to debit it from.
The person who tries to cash the cheque will get nothing from your closed account or from that bank in general and the bank won't charge you.
The payee's only other option as far as I'm aware is to pursue you for the money by a different means. If they can, to send you an invoice or something.

In practice, it's no different to them losing the cheque completely before being able to cash it. I think.
