I am thinking about selling my car because I hardly use it, the only thing stopping me is that I know that I'll loose my 10 year plus no claims discount after 2 years. My wife has a car registered in her name so is it possible to take year about having the insurance in each others name to protect both of our NCD or does the insurance have to be in her name because she is the registered keeper?

You wont lose your NCD. If you buy another car later on, and you can prove you had a NCD then most insurance companies will give you your NCD.

I wonder why so many people put "loose" (as in "loose clothing") when they mean "lose" (as in "lose a football match").

I see this time and time again in answerbank and other places on the internet.
Even if you did do as you want, if your wife was to have a hit and it was insured in your name and they found out that she was the main driver then they wouldn't pay out. I have just changed mine over because of this as I very rarely drive these days so we changed it from my name to hers.
Just insure your wifes car as having 2 drivers you and her. Both of you should get the NCB , this is a common thing to do . Just make sure you insure the car as both of you driving equally, any insurance broker will be able to help . You can do it online as well , get an online quote and then go to a broker and ask them to beat it, I did this last year and the broker instantly dropped his price to the same as the online.
