My hubby just bought a new car and had it taxed today, how long until the tax shows up on the central computer. Im asking as a friend recently bought a car and had it taxed and was pulled over by police as the tax didn't show up on their computer, how stupid as in the past if you had a tax disc that was it TIA

If he has the tax disc displayed on the window screen then I can't see how he would be breaking the law, but I don't know how long it would take to show up on the DVLA computer.
You can check yourself if it's listed, all you need is the reg number and the make of car.

already does old bean, they can check, tax/insurance/mot via the plate.
It really doesn't matter either way. Post Offices are linked into the same database that your details go to when you buy road tax online; if the police in-car system doesn't show an up-to-date reading it still doesn't alter the fact that the car HAS been taxed. As long as your friend purchased the tax before being pulled over, s/he isn't going to be in any trouble, whatever.
(What I mean is, whether the road tax was paid online or in a post office, or direct from a DVLA local office, the fact still stands that the purchase was made. Therefore, no offence has been committed).

When I taxed my car on-line last time, I was told not to drive it on the road until my disc arrived. Non -display of a current tax disc (or even incorrect display) is still an offence I think
I thought you were given 5 days.
when you tax your car online you may continue to drive for 5days from the end of the preceding month if a current tax disc was inforce and you are renewing this doe,s not apply if it was not taxed when you bought it. soon as you buy tax disc stick on windscreen no problem if police pull you up tell im to get out of his mobilty chair and look it should be located bottom right of the windscreen facing the front of the vehicle, if he still has a problem point him in the right direction, it realy p****him off.
