The theme tune to The Great Egg Race was very similar to Popcorn, was it that you were thinking on?

Don't think it was the Great Egg Race - brilliant program.

Wasn't it some sort of science program presented my the mad arm waving Magnus Pike ?

It's not "Don't Ask Me". If you listen to TGER theme it does sound like "Popcorn" (a wee bit anyway.)
Robert's Robots on ITV?
I remember it from a 70's schools programme.  I'm afraid I cant remember the name of it, but it was either a science/engineering type thing or a buisiness programme.  The opening titles featured graphics showing 2 or 3 rotating orange cogwheels.  Hope this helps.
Patrick's Pantry?
Bonzo is correct I have the same memory of the 3 greas in the top right of the screen and every time I hear Popcorn this image pops into my head, stumped on the program. Engineering themed

Yep definitely engineering craft studies.

Always remember the images of the cogs moving.
