works document conversion

i used to have vista and now im on win7, so i have a lot of documents that now wont open...i have got open office installed but its quite confusing to try to open a simple word style doc and convert it to a readable format

is there some way i can just change all works docs into word with just a right click or something

Pretty sure OO will open works stuff fine.

Right click on any works file, select open with > select default program and then select open office, make sure there is a tick in "always use this program" then click ok.
Not with just a right click, no,
But in OpenOffice Word processor, try File-> Wizards -> Document Converter.
This will convert whole folders of documents from one format to another.

yes chuck it will but it brings up about 30 options and every one i try just opens a garbled page instead...just can't find the right one

any ideas?
You could try converting them to Word format at http://www.zamzar.com/ - they include .wps and .wks (document and spreadsheet formats) in their list of file types which can be converted
You don't need to use Open Office when you can get Microsoft Office APPS for free on line from the Microsoft website. This is a cut down version of 2010 Microsoft Office and will do all that you need to open your documents.
