Our bath is now very slow to drain away, must be a combination of hair and soap down it.

I've tried soda crystals and boiling water plus most of the unblockers.

Problem is, because it's not totally blocked the liquid ones seep past without shifting the gubbins that's down there. Any ideas, is there a powdered unblocker still available? Thanks.

I used Mr Muscle, big bottle, pour it down the plughole and leave it for a hour, then rinse thoroughly. We get a lot of cat hairs in our sinks and the bath (yes, they like sitting in there) and Mr Muscle always does the trick.

If not, you might find you need a good old-fashioned sink plunger to shift the goop.
If the chemicals don't shift it completely .......... you might be able rent one of these ..

If you can remove the bath panel, the best solution is to simply take the bath trap off and clean it out .................. plastic usually, quite easy to dismantle
We use caustic soda (be careful mind you) just pour the stuff down the drain and then stand as far back as possible and pour down some boiling water - always does the job and only costs about £2 or so. Just mind yourself as it will burn you if you get it on your skin!
Sorry I am assuming the 'soda crystals' you have used is exactly what I have suggested. Ignore me, slow day!

I have recently seen a tool type thing which JML sell, its like a thin wire brush which you put down the plug hole and push as far as you can and it grabs all the gunk and pulls it out? Might me worth a try.
After you have it cleaned out cut a piece of netting to the size of the drain hole and place it in there. The next time it gets clogged just pull out the netting and throw it out and replace with new, much easier than what you are going through.
Agreed with Greedyfly about using caustic soda.

However follow the instructions on the pack, not pouring boiling water onto it.

It is dangerous stuff.

It should be mixed before being poured down the drain, wearing gloves and eye protection. You must add the crystals to water, not water to the crystals.

Just leave it a few hours and it will dissolve hair and soap scum. You may need to treat the drain a few times if it is that bad.
Use a bent bit of wire coat hanger to have a dig down the drain.
I agree with 'The Builder'. The best method is dismantle it, clean it and put it back.

thanks gang. will work my way though the list!
As I say with the boiling water - it really helps the process but BE CAREFUL it is dangerous. Cover your eyes!

An old fashioned plumbers rubber plunger, its what was used before all these new chemical cleaners. The old ways are still the best. Dont forget to hold a wet rag over the overflow to seal it or you will be plunging till the cows come home, lol .

Thanks for the warning about caustic soda, haven't needed to get that; yet!. We have a plunger on order, an hour of fishing with curtain wire has cleared a lot of it, most is beyond the trap.
