The Petrol doesn't always flow from the Pump

I would like to know why, and only on occasion, I can't get the petrol to flow smoothly from the pump into my car's petrol tank. I've just put fuel in and the level on the nozzle kept clicking off. It doesn't seem to matter how I hold the lever, or how I position the nozzle into the inlet - sometimes the tank just fills up smoothly and other times it faffs around clicking on and off, Why, please?

You get that clicking to stop back splash from the Nozzel Boxtop.

Thanks TWR, but it stops the flow of the fuel altogether, the nozzle is already fully in the feed tube, only slight pressure on the level makes it cut off again and again. ?
if you have the nozzle fully inserted - why not try only putting it in halfway instead.
practice makes perfect, or you have an issue with the anti-syphon device

Thank you - but I have tried it all ways. I have a Daihatsu Sirion and it seems to have an oddly position entry with the little door not being very helpfully placed. I will persevere!
i get this a lot too, i find if i push it downwards so that the tube is level with the nozzle
I used to have a Rover with that problem, but only at certain garages.I used to put nozzle in fuel filler then withdraw it about an inch or so pain in the ass at times.
Hi again Boxtops, there was a garage near when I live that was doing the same thing, not only to my car but many others it turned out the nozzle was that sensitive the leased bit of back splash the the bloody thing stopped, a lot of people complained to the garage in the end they replaced the Nozzle " Problem solved"
