With pay as you go sim cards, do you need to top up your credit "every" month? What if say your 10 lasts for 2 months is that ok? Last time I had one I did not use it for a couple of months, next time I went to use it, it was dead!! all the credit I had on it had gone.

Usually on Pay-as-you-go contracts, you have to make a call within 90 days, otherwise your credit is cancelled. All you need to do is call another phone and have it answered, even for one second. Check with your provider exactly what your time limit is for your contract.
You do not need to top it up every month, just make an outgoig call.

Great, thanks.
Rubbish!

I'm with Tesco, and so are my daughter and my spare phone.

Sometimes one is not used for ages, and still works.

The only time I have 'lost' anything is on a sim in my spare phone which was never ever topped up, and had about 20p on it. After a couple of years it was zapped.

I have a phone I keep in the car just for emergencies, that has had a Virgin Mobile payg card in it for over 3 years now, it has not been used to make any calls, I just checked the airtime left on it and it has 9.40 on it, still the same as 3 years ago !!

I am with Vodaphone, I hardly use my phone. But have had no problems, my credit last ages.
I am like marval(and others) I have a Vodaphone Pay as You Go,and the last time I used it was last Nov(2008) and it is still in credit with no problems.
I have gone (at the longest) for 18 months without making a call.
But as Dr Filth says it all depends wjo you are with, they all have different rules.
my friends mum is blind they got her a mobile for emergency ( if anything went wrong with the bt line ) the only numbers in it are family so one would at least get a message if not a call.
the phone was not used for around 4 or 5 months when my friend went to check that she still had credit.

sim not in use, unable to check credit

he had to get another sim and put 10 credit on it. he now makes a call for around 1 minute each month to check the phone is still working .

this phone is on the 02 network
