I know! Weird! I bought my daughter a toy from USA, which used to sing songs etc. The batteries wore out and I replaced them... Now it doesn't sing.. It says totally different phases!! What's all THAT about?!

Have you been at the tequila , tequila ?
I can only assume that you have clicked a switch somewhere to make it say some different things.

Ha! No - I haven't had a drop! I've checked for switches... but there is nothing any different apart from it now says totally different things! For example - when you put the 'mummy' block in, it used to sing "When Mommy sings. da da da da,. it's a happy sound, everyone smiles when Mommy's around".. now it just grunts "Girl"! All very peculiar!!

misogynist toy lol
I wonder if the American batteries are a different power output to British ones?

This may result in the recorded message being played slower than normal and sounding like a slow "GIIIIRL" rather than the usual happy jingle.

Yes - I think it is a mysogonist! No matter how slowly the tune played, it would never sound like "Girl", and, when you put the baby block in, it just giggles! It used to sing! In fact, the blocks all had three different phrases each, depending on what way you put them in.

Hi,

I purchased a Friedland door bell last year.

A few weeks ago it started to malfunction so I replaced the batteries, it solved the problem BUT the chimes were all out of tune.

I returned it to where it was purchased and ex[lained. The chap replaced the batteries with the same make as the originals, and hey presto, all was working again.

He went on to explain that there are all sorts of batteries for different equipment, i.e. cameras - radios - torches etc. You must replace the battery with a similar type that was supplied with the original equipment. He replaced my batteries with Duracel.

Regards
If this is a real effect, it could be that the toy has different "modes" that can be switched somehow (not necessarily by an actual physical switch!), and when the batteries failed, the toy "forgot" which mode it was in and reverted to its default mode.

If this is the case, and you don't have the instructions with it, it could be very difficult to sort out. The kind of things you might try:
- remove and replace the batteries,
- press and hold down any buttons while connecting the
batteries,
- press any buttons together in various combinations.
