what Length of custodial sentence
I know its all depending on the individual circumstances, and its difficult to generalise , but if somebody is convicted of .
1 Wounding//causing grievous bodily harm with intent
2 wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm
Having pled not guilty
We have been told to expect a custodial sentence but they have been evasive as to how long a person could expect to get?
What would be a reasonable ball park figure.

Really need a lot more information:
Age of the person
Gender of the person
Status - married/single/children/employed
Nature of the injuri(ies) inflicted
Number of victims
Circumstances of the offences
Previous record - clean or previous convictions;
Previous similar convictions?
(If so the court will have to determine if the person is a danger to the public)
Previous terms of imprisonment.

Defendant is in his mid thirtys
Male
Single/unemployed/plenty of previous for violence and petty thefts, not sure if he has been inprisoned.The nature of the injuries inflicted, he set about and beat a guy of simlar age in his own bed in the middle of the night, hit him with a stick of some sort and stabbed him 6 times in the back, puncturing both lungs , he was in a drug in duced coma for a month and spent a total of 11 weeks in hospital.The victim came very very close to dying and is very lucky to be alive.
The reason for my quest is that i would have thought that an attack of this nature would be attempted murder, not GBH. How long would you expect the deffendant to get in this case, I know its hard but a genral ballpark figure would be great.

i think you are probably looking at about 4 years (approximately) for something like this but he could also get something called an IPP sentence because of his previous convictions.
What this basically means is that he will have to serve the full sentence given before applying for parole and he will be released if and only if the parole board think he is no longer a danger to the public.

HI well this one has finally resolved itself.
After much tooing and froing the defendant stuck to his not guilty plee, and put up a "wasnt me" defence , inspite of all the evidence . As the Guilty verdicts were retured, he shouted at the court that there was no evidence and he didnt do it.
So more tooing and froing and messing about, and people not being there when they are supposed to be, its my first experiance of the judicial system at work, very long winded , very frustrating, totally inefficinat .Any way long story short he got 6 years.
Im told all things considered, with good behaviour and a bit of time sereved on remand he will be out and back on the dole in 3.
Dosnt seem fair , but then it was never going to be enough,Thanks to all for there help.Jim
