Nine years! Nine falming years and 12 months for the mother.
I can't understand how these judges can sleep at night after passing that sort of sentence on two total monsters for killing this poor little soul.
Not long enough.
What does anyone else think?

b******S. poor litte boy. Life imprisonment wouldnt be enough in my eyes. They should have inflicted the same punishment they done to that beautiful baby boy.RIP X
They do say that child killers have a hard time in jail and have to be kept separate from the other prisoners for their own safety. Perhaps they shouldn't separate them and see how much they like pain when it's inflicted on them.
It makes me sick to think that people are capable of such cruelty to a young child.
someone failed this child and someone else a few years earlier failed the two culprits, I hold alot of store by the value of family, someone let these people down and they were left with no sense of how to behave in a civilised way.
I say hurrah! for the new law which has allowed these two to be imprisoned without proving who actually killed the baby.

The maximum sentence for this offence is 14 years, and I would have liked to have seen both parties receive this.

But you really should read the report properly, tigerlilly.

The male received nine years plus 12 months for perverting the course of jutice, and the woman - who is not the child's mother but is the girlfriend of the child's father - received 9 years imprisonment and will be deported after the sentence has been served.
Those evil bastads should be hung...prison is no punishment for scum like that

I feel sorry for the jury who had to sit through this case

Whether they killed this little mite or not, to me is irrelevant, they tortured this baby, inflicted inimaginable pain on it.

Up to me, i'd first lock them in a room for an hour with women who have strong maternal instincts, then, if still alive after that, Hang them.

If this woman is deported (I don't believe it will happen), she can still go on to commit the same sort of crime again.

Inapickle - I have already pointed out the woman is not the child's mother.

The maximum sentence is 14 years for this offence.

They couldn't charge them with murder because they couldn't prove who actually killed the child.
I agree with Lonnie. This made me feel physically sick. What vile people these are. This crime is indefensible, and if anyone even attempts to defend their actions and find reasons for why they did what they did, then shame on them. There is no excuse. Dot says someone has let them down, but as usual, in today's society, that means this appalling crime is ultimately someone else's fault. No, it isn't someone else's fault. They did it, the guilt is theirs alone and the blame must lie squarely on their shoulders. They are adult, they know right from wrong. This twisted woman deliberately tortured this poor child in the most horrendous way, and the equally twisted father did absolutely nothing to stop her. Prison is not enough, and society would be better off without them. And if we hear once more from social services that 'lessons have been learned', as we usually do in these cases, then shame on them too, because it seems there's a distinct lack of plain common sense within social services and the lesson is never learned. When children are known to be at risk, as this one was, then they should be removed from the parents permanently. No second chances. Never mind the rights of the parents, or what they want - it's time we put the children first and made their safety and their right to life the real prority. This poor baby didn't have a chance.
Disgrace, we need to have a final solution for child killers. I have stated mine in the past, i believe they should hang.
Unfortunately it's not even going to be 9 years. They'll probably serve nearer to 5.
you are ashamed of our legal system tigerlily - may i ask which legal system you would prefer? our justice system is not perfect but i still say it is the best in the world - if you can find me a better one i'll be very impressed.

here neither could be proved to have delivered the killing blow, this would have been reasonable doubt in any murder investigation - so a new law which was developed to prevent these sort of people going free has been used - surely thats better than the alternative... unfortunately all this locking people in cupboards with angry mobs is not the sort of justice i could ever approve of - but is this the sort of mob rule killings you want?
The law is also behind this story:

I would be interested to know what tigerlily and others think of that in light of this case.
The judge could have given 14 years each to these scumbags but did'nt, instead they will be out in 5 years IggyB, that is whats shameful with the justice system here when judges fail to give out maximum sentences at their disposle, which if there was ever a case for a maximum sentence then this was it.
Ethel, that's an interesting question. Maybe you should consider posting it separately? No doubt it would produce quite a response.

Iggy, I don't advocate mob rule, but if you think our justice system is the finest in the world, then all I can say is heaven help us. I can't remember the last time I read a report where the penalty fitted the crime - and this one certainly doesn't. Whichever of these monsters delivered the killing blow, the fact remains that this innocent child is dead - and suffered appallingly before he died - and his murderers will be released from prison in a very short time. Where's the 'fine' justice in that?
I knew I shouldn't have read that!!!

Save a child and kill a social worker springs to mind.
naomi - tell me of an actual real life system of justice you think is better then
Iggy, I don't know enough about alternative judicial systems to give a truly informed opinion. Perhaps other systems in other countries do see justice done, and if so, maybe we ought to be looking at them and learning from them. However, my concern is with the obvious failure of our own system to make the safety of innocent people - especially children - a priority, and to punish criminals appropriately - and it happens time and time again.

Do you think these people received a suitable punishment for their crime?
Naomi, your a woman after my own heart in this sort of issues, you put it into words better than I could.

iggy, you say our justice system is the best in the world, forgive me, but surely your joking.

Example,
An upright citizen stands up to yobs, and gets killed, his killer gets a derisory sentence, or, if that same citizen, in self defence, slightly hurts the yob, he/she gets prosecuted, and not the yob.

There's loads of factual stories like that.

Quite simply, for certain crimes, the posted story being one of them, execution is the only answer.
I wonder if those who think the British judicial system is the best in the world would be so forgiving to people who torture children if the children were related to you?
