I bought my daughter's car from her last november - she had previously declared SORN on the car , and it has been sitting on our drive untill March this year when I finally put it back on the road , including renewing the tax disc which started from the month of march

However I also took out insurance - and there was a question asking when I bought the car , to which I answerd last november .

I am now getting round to completing the form for the change of keeper for the DVLA .

My question is, if I put last november to the question on the DVLA documentation as to when I bought the car - will the DVLA be chasing me for payment of car tax from november last year ?

What I want to do is answer november for the DVLA documentation because I have already answerd november on the insurance documentation

This is tricky because you can buy a used car with valid tax and continue to use that tax disc.

But a SORN is different:

A SORN declaration is valid for 12 months unless you re-license, sell, permanently export or scrap the vehicle before the 12 months have expired.

The DVLA also require you and the seller to inform then as soon as possible of the change of keeper.

In light of all this, it would be better to put the most recent date on the forms.

You may have agreed to buy the car in November and given a cash consideration for the contract, but the transaction was not completed until March.

Thanks Ethel

What concerns me is if my insurance company discovered that I had put one date on the insurance application and another date on the DVLA documentation

Do you think the insueres would have a problem with that ?
As no claim is going to arise from any event between November last year and April this year - it hasn't been on the road - then in all honesty I don't think it will matter one little bit.

Don't worry about it.
