What was the first music album to be commercialy available to buy on cd, also same question for dvd? I have heard its Billy Joels 52nd st for the cd but im not sure, dvd i have no idea.

The CBS/Sony produced album "52nd Street" was the first CD commercially available during October 1982, although Polygram/Philips started mass producing the "first" audio CD on 17th August of that year...

In September(?) 1997 Abbey Road Interactive were responsible for producing the first commercially available DVD in the UK, "Queen�s Greatest Flix", followed by the first feature film "The Graduate".

I cannot readily find the answer for the "World's first" commercial DVD but it could have been produced up to 12 months earlier based on the availability of commercial DVD players in Japan from November 1996...
